Tunbridge Wells Creative Economic Strategy

Introduction

Culture is a key driver for the prosperity of the county.
The creative economy is one of the fastest growing sectors in the UK.
The digital and creative industries are highlighted by government as a priority for growth and Kent has much to contribute to this.
(Inspirational Creativity: Transforming Lives Every Day. Our Cultural Ambition for Kent 2017-2027).

This Creative Economy Strategy, produced by Creative Tunbridge Wells partners, sets out a dynamic blueprint for the evolution of Tunbridge Wells’ cultural and creative sector. It envisions a future where our borough is not only recognised for its current cultural vibrancy but also emerges as a beacon for potential residents, visitors, and investors. This strategy aims to enhance the perception and reality of Tunbridge Wells as a hub of creativity and cultural excellence.

Acknowledging the widely recognised positive impact of culture, as underscored in national and regional frameworks, this strategy aligns with the aspiration to uplift our communities and businesses through a deeper understanding and appreciation of our cultural and creative pursuits. Informed by existing data and supplemented by sector-specific research and geographical mapping, our approach is both data-driven and forward-looking.

Key to the realisation of this strategy is the establishment of a robust delivery mechanism. This mechanism is pivotal not only in channelling efforts effectively, but also in attracting further investments, notably from organisations like Arts Council England. It will facilitate the development of meaningful opportunities and interventions that resonate with our community’s aspirations.

Central to this endeavour is Creative Tunbridge Wells, a strategic cross-sector partnership driven by a united ambition for culture and place. It stands as the principal facilitator and driving force behind the implementation of this strategy, embodying our commitment to interweaving creativity and culture into the very fabric of Tunbridge Wells. Through this concerted effort, we aim to cultivate a thriving, inclusive, and prosperous creative economy, setting a standard for cultural development and community enrichment.
